Outdoor Safety Institute Director Alex Kosseff presents two workshops at the 2014 Wilderness Risk Management Conference. Join us October 1-3 (Pre-Conference Events Sept 29 - Oct 1) in Atlanta, Georgia. This Year's Workshops:"10 Steps to Better Risk Management" and "Grassroots Organizing: A Tool to Shift Your Risk Management Culture". It's always a fun, high quality event bringing together leaders and professionals in the field for learning, sharing, and networking - and ultimately doing all we can to make our programs as safe as they can be. We hope to see you there!

Every year at the WRMC there are a number of categories for presentations during the main conference along with pre-conference events. This year OSI's director Alex Kosseff offers two workshops new to WRMC in the Program Administration category.

Workshop Description for "10 Steps to Better Risk Management":

Presenter: Alex Kosseff

"Risk Management reviews are a powerful tool for identifying gaps in safety practices. Learn about reviews and how the Outdoor Safety Institute has used them to identify 10 important but relatively simple risk management steps that many programs aren't taking. The 10 steps involve aspects of management, staffing, crisis response, field practices, training, and transportation. This introductory level session (and accompanying 25-page written guide) provides the resources to navigate through these 10 challenges and beyond."

Workshop Description for "Grassroots Organizing: A Tool to Shift Your Risk Management Culture":

Presenters: Melanie Mac Innis, Alex Kossef, and Sascha Paris.

"How can organizations that work with volunteers (or staff with limited training) improve their risk management practices? We will explore grassroots organizing tools that can be used to create risk management improvements. Part of a discussion will center on a case study involving a serious water incident, how this catalyzed change, and how to lead change before tragedy strikes. This interactive discussion will help organizations understand and manage change through volunteer engagement, training, and support."

Sign up for the 2014 WRMC today! Early registration discount applies through September 5, 2014. There are lots of great presenters so take a look at the event schedule to see them all. See you in October!
